One Greater Manchester side has an amateur vets squad with nine former Premier League footballers in their current squad.

222 Top Division Scores, 325 Global Appearances

Wythenshawe Vets Over 35s are situated in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Vets League Top Division.

Their squad list this season boasts nine ex- Premier League players, with a total over 1,800 Premier League games.

This star-studded squad also contains over 220 Premier League scores and over 320 global appearances.

The squad include one forward, who netted 37 scores in over 100 games for Newcastle United after signing for them for £9m from Bundesliga side Freiburg in January 2012.

Cisse made his debut for Wythenshawe in their most recent home-field game against defending champions their rivals and scored every one of the six goals in a 6-2 win - including a 32-minute first-half hat-trick.

Wythenshawe's roster for this campaign also includes former pros such as English and Liverpool forward Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley winger George Boyd, Everton striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League championship winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Well-Known Names and International Stars

Stephen Ireland started turning out for the team during preseason this summer through close mate and current team player Blake Norton, and the former Irish midfielder then asked other ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to join in.

Former Senegalese striker Oumar Niasse, who scored twelve scores in sixty-five top-flight games for the Toffees and still goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut against Collegiate OB - who are based in the city and wear an Blue training kit as their strip.

"My mate Stephen Ireland told me 'join and have a game, it's enjoyable'," said Niasse.

"After that he told me we were playing a team from the city and the shock I had when I noticed them wearing Blue kits - I thought this is wrong for me!

"If you still love football and you feel you can still play, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"Those spectators who turn up and see are happy and to make a moment if they watch us competing there and to pose us queries - it's more like the joy of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

So great is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, he had his first game at defender.

"That's a little different but then, I enjoy running and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That running is what I'm after. It's good fun."

Dreamlike' Experience

In addition to the forward's 6 scores on debut, Ireland has netted 8 in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored five on his debut match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one match as a striker.

The team are top of the Top Division with 3 wins from 3 and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics full-back Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

He has appeared at two World Cups for his country, in as well as playing in more than 200 top-flight games.

"It was going round like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League players," said Barrow.

"I think I was a bit awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] got on and he's has over 60 English appearances.

"We held our own for a solid twenty mins but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group literally haven't stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the way home.

"The opponents were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
