A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had led observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
